Academic Excellence through Skill Acquisition

Supporting Independent Learning

For the learner in transition who may have their eyes set on a community college or trade school, developing independence in completing academics, overcoming challenges through creative problem solving, and self-advocating, when assistance is needed, are imperative skills to possess and utilize in higher education settings. Using an online academic platform, teachers work with learners on how to effectively manage time, complete assignments while supplementing on-line curriculum with hands-on projects designed to stimulate creative thinking and cooperative working groups.

Curriculum

The A.P. Learning Center identifies the diverse needs of the 21st century learner. Following Wagner's Seven Survival Skills, educators discuss, demonstrate and develop educational activities that support learner fluency in communication, goal setting and decision making. Pulling from the Overcoming Obstacles curriculum, educators at the A.P. Learning Center are committed to foster life skills and independence within learners so that all learners have the socio-emotional skillsets needed for success in adulthood.
